Sergiev Posad is situated an hour out of Moscow. The town and the St.Sergius Laura of the Holy Trinity were built in the 14th century and remained the Russian Orthodox equivalent of the Vatican for centuries. Although the Patriarch and the administrative centre of the church are now situated in Danilovsky monastery in Moscow, this magnificent town remains probably the most important spiritual sites in the whole of Russia.
