Yusupov family was one of the greatest and famous families in Russia, holding high positions and standing close to the throne. The Yusupovs were always Princes and renowned for their wealth and extraordinary intelligence. Orient-styled, the richest among palaces of St.Petersburg, competing even with emperors Palaces, the Yusupov Palace had always been one of the major centers of aristocratic social life, wonderful balls and ballet performances of artistic elite of the city. But this palace became a somber and cursed place for the Princes Yusupov after the dramatic murder that happened here. Old walls of this palace remember fatal shots, the pale faces of noble and of high standing conspirators and tsar's favorite peasant Rasputine trying to escape murderers and then lying on the grey ice of the river at the bottom of the Palace.
Wandering around the halls of the Yusupov Palace which preserve a sense of the past, one can learn about the refined luxury, exquisite taste, and splendor of the high life, family happiness and human tragedies of the past.
