On January 25th I visited Durminsky reserve with an Australian couple.
The beginning of January this year was very warm, but by the end of the month frost intensified and at night the temperature drops 30 degrees below zero. So our guests got to experience the real Russian winter.
After driving 78 kilometers along the asphalt road, we turned on to the snow-covered country road.
Before we could continuing we had to reduce the pressure in the tires.
After another 27 kilometers we arrived at the Durmin village, this road ended here.
The rest of 39 kilometers we went along the winter road, this part of the journey took us 1.5 hours. In the reserve we were met by Alexander Batalov owner of the reserve.
Accommodation was arranged in the cabins. Each cabin is for 2 people and named after some of the animals living in the Ussuri taiga.
An Australians couple choice to stay in the Bear cabin.
There are two beds inside the cabin, the cabin is heated with a wood stove, there is a washbasin, but the toilet is outside.
At lunch we got acquainted with a another couple who came from London. They arrived a day before us, and have already seen the tracks of the tiger, put the photo traps and even got night photos of the tiger!
After lunch Alexander showed us his base.
The next day in the morning we tried to drive to rocks " House of Tigers"
We were going to go off-road, so we had to put chains on the wheels of thw 4WD. However, the snow was so deep, we couldn't pass.
We had to use a winch to get out of the snow.
Alexander decided to go by snowmobiles to the hunter hut. And on the way we would try to find the tracks of tiger.
Hunting cabin is very cozy. It is located in a very beautiful place near a forest creek. The guests can spend the night here, if they wish.
